Upon returning back after the Christmas break, Class Newton have been discussing what makes Chrishall Primary School a Christian school. It was inspiring to hear the children articulate their ideas on why they feel proud to be part of Chrishall, and why we are a Christian school.

Our Virtual Hindu Temple

In Newton’s RE lesson today, as part of our learning about Places of Worship we turned the classroom into a virtual temple – a mandir. We put Hindu symbols on the door, made a murti (shrine) to Ganesha, and offered gifts of flowers and fruit to the gods. We all took off our shoes out of respect and borrowed the school bell so that we could let the gods know we were there. Then we partook in prashad, which is the sharing of the food offered to the gods. Once we had learnt about the features of the temple children worked in pairs to give guided tours.

Head Teacher’s REACH homework
11 Oct 2015 1 Comment
I recently set children a creative homework challenge which was to think about what the school REACH values meant to them and to create something to share with each other. I am absolutley delighted with the huge response from children across the school – their interpretation and clear ability to live our school values both at school and out of school has made me very proud to be their Head Teacher.
Sculptures, mobiles, paintings, stories, poems, powerpoint presentations, videos, lego models, crossword style picture, photographs and news reports have all been used to present the homework.
I have decided to use Edward’s (year 1) homework as our visual school vision as it clearly demonstrates our values.
Here is Gabriel’s excellent animation, which encompasses all that is important to him.
Robert’s chicken design cleverly captures our school ethos …
Louie created a globe with our REACH values and children holding hands around it which effectively convey what the values means to him.
Bethan and Joseph thought carefully about how they use the values and home and had photographs to show them in action.
Libby in our reception class thought about Christian Caring with her mum and decided to make some cupcakes and visit a neighbour with her new puppy.
Frankie creatively displayed what the school values mean to her on a cross.
Ewan, Aaron, Amelie and Rebecca made some fantastic sculptures …
A huge congratulations to everyone, do take a look at a collection of some of the other creative pieces …

Please do take the time to look at our school election video. We are so proud of the children’s achievements. Their engagement with the general election and ability to use the school’s REACH values when thinking about society are just fantastic. Well Done children.
